Rescue or
Enablement?
Sometimes
someone we love needs to be flat out
rescued because they are going
down and we have the power to keep them
from destruction. Hopefully they
will be grateful and make the changes
necessary.
Sometimes
rescuing a loved one is not helpful
because they are now gaining a sense of
entitlement to our generosity, are not
really grateful, and are not changing.
This kind of rescue is rewarding bad
behavior and encouraging the
self-destructiveness to continue.
Only when they hit bottom will they have
the desperation required to make the
difficult change. Are you
rescuing or enabling?
Perhaps it's time to seek counsel from
others.
