The Five Points of The
Blessing
Some counselors recommend blessing those we
care about as they did in Scripture. Abraham blessed Isaac.
Isaac Blessed Jacob. Jacob blessed his 12 sons and grandchildren.
A closer look at the blessing reveals truths
we can use today. It's great for parents, but also works for
spouses and those we are encouraging.
The Blessing contained:
1. Meaningful Touch - Assuring, comforting,
and centering non-sexual touch.
2. The Spoken Word - Words that express confidence in the person being
blessed.
3. Attaching High Value to the Person – Let them know they are
worth the your effort.
4. Picturing a Special Future – Speak about what you see them
achieving and the good places you see them going in life. Change grows
faster in the soil of encouragement than in the hard rocky ground of
criticism.
5. Active Commitment in Helping the Future Happen - Even in the bad
times… it is important to make room for fallibility and to be committed
no matter what.
